Jefferson's "family" included not only his daughters from his marriage to Martha Jefferson, but also the slaves who then lived on his plantation whose lives Jefferson documented in his Farm Book. I quite agree with the President. I have never left that early stage of life where all children inquire, “Is it real, Mommy?” I read some fiction and enjoy it, but the majority of my beloved books are historical or biographical. The book is a well-written and surprisingly short look at Jefferson's service to America/5(6). I began reading this book simply because, somehow, while I'd already read biographies of most of the Presidents - and many of some of them - I had somehow overlooked Mr. Jefferson.
